CRANDIC

Decided not to run CRANDIC. I signed up for the marathon, not sure what was in my head at that time. I gave my bib number to Andres and he ran the half marathon. My right leg is still hurting. I have no idea where the pain originates.

Got my new shoes, highly needed. Got the same model I had before. Altras-Escalante.

Took some video of the half marathon runners and also took many pictures of the fast runners. Erik Bandy won the half marathon in 1:12:12 (YouTube Video). Way ahead of everybody else.

Spring Mile 2019

Sophia accepted my invitation to go to Washington High School and run the "mile." I wanted her friends Julieta and Melissa to come along but it didn't work out. We arrived to WHS and Sophia felt intimidated when she saw all the runners. Shyly she told me she did not want to do it anymore. But, she was just a little bit nervous. People were very nice and made her feel welcome. We ran a few 400's to warm up and then did some calisthenics.

Tuesday Night Track, TNT, organized this chipped time mile check. There were 19 runners doing the mile. Some runners did not show up, I believe they might be hurting or tapering for Sunday's CRANDIC Marathon.
My right leg has been bothering me a lot lately. I wasn't able to run Monday night. I have pain on my right leg when I try to run, however, I can do jumping jacks with no problem. I believe this pain has to do with some nerve on my back. Thank God, I was able to run on Tuesday night.

Sophia did awesome. She ran behind me most of the time, and sometimes she passed me, but then I passed her. It was a very even race between she and me. We both finished with one second difference.

1 mile, 7:15 min (splits: 1:50, 1:54, 1:49 and 1:42).
400 m, 1:24 min, 5:34 mpm.

Kewash Half Marathon

This year, Kewash Trail Race included a 5K, a 10K, and the half marathon.
There were a total of 395 runners.
Half marathon, 205 runners (91 male runners and 114 female runners)
10K race, 67 runners.
5K race, 123 runners.

Some pain has been bothering me for the last couple of weeks, left leg first, now it's the right leg. Pain was so bad, I even thought about not running Kewash. But, pain was bearable and I survived 13.1 miles. Thought about not following any pacer but instead run on how I was feeling. Well, it turned I was feeling good.

Andres and I started together. He was taking care of me holding a good pace and telling me to slow down sometimes (just to save energy, I knew he could run faster). I always thought he was in better shape than me. But, he could not hold my pace after mile 10. I never looked back, but I thought he was running not too far behind me.

Got third place in my Age Group.

Go the Distance for Domestic Violence

Race started at 9:00 am this morning. It was very cold, but weather improved during the race. I did not know the course, so I didn't know what to expect. Tried to follow Craig B. Followed him for about a mile, but I noticed he started to slow down, so I tried to use somebody else as a rabbit. Not too long after that, I was the one being the rabbit.
I knew Craig was behind me. I was also running with John Scroggins, but eventually he sprinted and I couldn't stay with him. Tried to catch him at the end, but he was too ahead of me.
My quads were hurting this morning, but I was able to warm up enough before the race. I was surprised two other 50's runners were ahead of me. The overall winner was in his twenties and he finished in 17 min.

TNT-2

Felt very sleepy and right quad was hurting. Decided to run with Kathy. We ran this loop with some very tough hills. Kathy ran this loop instead of doing the speed workout. But, I saw Jim and Stacey and ran an 800 m with them. Then, I decided to keep running intervals with them. I was surprised of how fast both of them are. I ran out of gas in the last interval (200 m). This group of people are very nice and excellent runners!

Glad to have my camera back. I have been taking several pictures and trying to learn how to use the manual mode in the camera.

I am looking forward to tonight's TNT in Washington High School. My right quad has been hurting, which is strange. I've never had quad problems before. I hope all I need is a good warm-up.

Tuesday Night Track (TNT)

Drove to Cedar Rapids and found Washington High School's track. Arrived just in time.  I decided to run the warm-up on the track. Bruce told me I needed to get there at 5:30 PM and warm-up with him next time.

Ran with Craig and Stacey the intervals. I was surprised to see how fast they were in the 100 m intervals. Interestingly, they did not have the same speed in the 200's and the 400's.
Totally worth the trip.
