Campeonato Nacional de Atletismo Masters

My FB friend Hector Beristain competed recently at the National Championship for Masters. This event took place in Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico. June 20, 2019.

Competition:
1500 m, 4:41.6 min, 5:08 mpm
10,000 m, 40:58 min, 6:07 mpm

Hector is a great athlete. I like to follow him in Garmin-Connect and see his training.

Tuesday Night Track

They put new floor between 200-300 m lines on the track. We decided not to run on the track and supersede the track intervals for a long hill run. I followed Craig, but at the end it was Martin who finished first! These guys are very competitive. Got my new TNT tank-top!

Thursday Night Group Run

Drove to Cedar Rapids and met some runners at NewBo market. Saw Mark and told me his surgery did not go well, and he needs a new surgery. H told me how bad he feels he cannot run.
I decided to run next to Jennifer. I did not know she wanted to do "tempo." I also did not know she wanted to run at about 8:30 mpm pace. I felt pretty tired and out of shape, but I survived the six miles running by her.
I sat with some guys who were drinking beer, Thomas, Frank, Steve, and Jake. I also met this guy from the Netherlands, Daniel. He told me he'll be in Cedar Rapids for three years working for AmeriTrans. I also met Morgan and Mailis. I usually have problems distinguishing these two girls.

Tuesday Night Track

Drove to Cedar Rapids and arrived to Washington High School around 5:30 PM. Joined some runners for a warm up. Ran to Beaver Park and back. Then, other runners went for a short warm up, so I them too. We came back to the track and did a couple of 400's. Then we did four 800's. Cooled down for about 3 laps.

Track Workout

Walked for a mile on the track as a warm-up. Then, decided to do one more mile with 100 m walk/100 m run intervals. Logan J arrived with his dad and decided to join him for a few laps.  It feels good to be back running.  Chest still hurts, but it is allowing me to run!

The Garmin Forerunner 920XT precision

I was wondering about the precision of our GPS watches, so I did the following three experiments. I went to the track and did all these experiments on Lane 1. I always started on the 1 mile line (that is about nine meters behind the finish line).

Experiment 1. Walked all laps steady pace. The Garmin beeped about 20 meters after I crossed the finish line. Garmin-Connect.

Experiment 2. 100m walk/100m run intervals. Garmin beeped about 10 m after finish line. Garmin-Connect

Experiment 3. Did the mile riding my bicycle. I made sure nobody was around. I was surprised this is how fast elite runners run the 5000 or 10000 meters! They are fast! Garmin beeped only about five meters after I crossed the Finish Line. Garmin-Connect.

Conclusions. The faster you go, the more precision.

Sophia is getting taller

Time to make some measurements. Sophia is currently 4 feet 10 inches tall.  Let's see how tall she gets by the end of the summer. I noticed she is packing more food in her body than she used to.
