The Strassburg Sock

I ran eight miles on Wednesday evening with the Wild Running group. First time I ran with Phil Young and Steve Wolcott. I felt pretty good and we ran at sub seven minute-mile! My left foot starting to hurt about after six miles. Plantar fasciitis!  I am learning that PF hurts when I push running too hard.  Lesson to be learned:  Run behind people, do not lead!
I got the Strassburg sock, it will keep my foot stretched at night. Found the following advise for Plantar Fasciitis:
  1. Stop running for 1 to 2 weeks, until you no longer experience morning heel pain.
  2.  Cross-train. Bicycle, aqua-jog, or do other aerobic exercise that doesn’t stress the plantar fascia.
  3.  Avoid wearing high-heel shoes, walking barefoot, and doing squats and calf raises.
  4. Wear the night splint until you have gone 7 days without pain. This usually takes 3 to 4 weeks.
  5. Take anti-inflammatory medicine for 10 days.
I got the sock last Wednesday.  Let's see how long it takes for the PF to stop hurting.   http://about.thesock.com/
In the meanwhile, I will be training with the Elliptical and try to swim more often.

More on PF

The left PF is still bothering. I was feeling better this week until yesterday's interval workout. We ran 400-600-800-800-600-400 intervals. Pretty consistent chronos. Unfortunately, after cooling down, my foot didn't feel like it could support any weight. Exercises seem to help. I rested from running today and went to the CRWC. Found one of the elliptical trainers (Matrix) and exercised for 30 minutes (level 7). It was a very good workout.
I plan to run tomorrow with the RW group.  I should play smart and get behind the group. Not in front, as I always end up running! I hope that paying attention to form helps to keep the PF healthy. Probably stretching exercises after running should be helpful too.

Plantar Fasciitis

The Running-Wild group was pretty large at the UI Indoor Track this morning. We warmed up as usual and got my Garmin calibrated after 800 mts. We ran 6 X 600 m with about three minute rest in between.  I was very tired by the last interval. My plantar fasciitis started hurting really bad and had to run pretty slow. Ran in a fast group with Dan Beck, Duane Staskal, and Lauren Hill. These guys have so much endurance!
John D suggested I take a week off running and do cycling instead. He also suggested some exercises to treat the PF.

Turning 51 and still running

I celebrated my birthday last night. Many friends came over to my house and we ate and drank some wine. Getting up this morning was easy, but concerned about the weather. Decided to go for a long run with a few of the RunningWild group. First few miles were pretty fast at about 8:20-8:30 MM pace. But, I suffered on my way back.  I was stiff and the cold wind did not help.  But, I made it to the end. Ran for 2 hr and 21 min. Glad I was able to run with other people. Unfortunately I had to run solo at the end.
Ben did it again!  He finished the Melbourne marathon in 2:44:48. Congratulations Ben! That's something like  a 6:10 MM pace!  amazing Ben!
